The Tamil Nadu Housing Board’s initiate to assume pre-fab technology, aiming at cutting down project cost and turnaround time is on a resistive path, as buyers seem to show apathetic responses towards the proposed mega project of 1500 apartments.

Though it had much hype during the initial stages, TNHB’s plans to build 1500 multi-storeyed residential flat at Sholinganallur did not get the desired number of the very minimal target of 1000 registered applications.

This 14.41 acre project in Sholinganallur costing Rs 612 crore is on halt due to difficulty in collecting the minimum initial deposit.

What is pre-fab?

For those who aren’t aware of pre-fab, it stands for prefabrication which is a method of manufacturing the components separately and finally bringing them together either during construction, or while bringing them to the site as sub-assemblies. This is one of the most popular methods all over the world, as it helps cost cutting by over 10-15% and time by 25%.

According to sources, this project has always been travelling with several hurdles.
