The existing Election Commissioner of Tamil Nadu is senior IAS officer Praveeen Kumar. Following the retirement of Naresh Gupta in July 2010, Praveen Kumar occupied the place as the 25th Election Commissioner.
He placed a plea to get relieved from this post in 2012. However, the election commission did not want to lose out the exclusive service done by him. He then took position as special supervisor during the recently held election at Varanasi where Narendra Modi had his candidacy.
Praveen Kumar made yet another plea for quitting the post after the election works are done. It is now said the Election Commission has agreed to it and Praveen Kumar will soon have his retirement. It is expected that he will quit the post well before the commencement of elections in Srirangam.
Speaking about this, Praveen Kumar says he plead to the government requesting for a release from this post and is recently agreed.
