Tamil Nadu is well prepared to manage the increasing Ebola virus menace, says Dr. K. Kolandaisamy, Director of Public Health. Nearly 702 individuals are kept under surveillance for the past two months. The incubation period for Ebola is 2 to 21 days.

Speaking to the doctor, he says 314 people have completed undergoing their incubation period and are out of surveillance now. He adds that there is no risk of Ebola in India, as the country does not have any direct flight to connect with the 6 Ebola affected countries.

Chennai airport is said to have 6 health inspectors and 6 doctors to quarantine the suspected Ebola patients. Blood samples are taken from the suspects and sent for testing in a lab at Pune. It takes three days for the test reports to be out, say officials.

Speaking to Dr. Madhu Purushothaman, a senior consultant at SIMS, he says it is not economically possible to set up labs for testing Ebola in every state, and it is not required too, as it is not a very common disease.
