The hill shrine of Lord Venkateshwara at Tirumala will remain closed for about 10 hours – between 10 am and 8 pm as lunar eclipse falls on Wednesday, say K.S. Sreenivasa Raju, a junior executive officer.
Sources say people throng in more numbers as there is couple of holidays due to Dasara and weekend leaves. As it is Purattasi month for Tamil Nadu, more people from the state are found in Tirumala this month. This has resulted in lengthy queues lined up for many kilometers in Tirumala.
Due to this sudden influx of pilgrims, the VIP break visit was cancelled and TTD stopped issuing Divya Darshan tokens until all the crowd subsides. Those who were already present in Tirumala were free to use privileged darshan for aged, parents, infants and physically challenged.
Authorities at the temple also advised the pilgrims to plan their pilgrimage keeping in mind the heavy rush. They say over 80000 people visit the temple during weekends.
To note, the Balaji temple at Venkatnarayana Road, T.Nagar, Chennai will also be shut down for lunar eclipse tomorrow.
