US tourists visiting India will be given 10 year visas except under some specific circumstances.
During his recent US visit end September, the Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, had announced that special visas will be given to US tourists to India as a step towards for better relations relationships between the 2 countries.
A government order has been issued on this regard on 30th September.
Following this, PM Modi has tweeted that the new measures are already implemented.
He had tweeted that he had talked about visas & embassies during his visit. He is delighted that the Indian Government has acted quite promptly and implemented the suggestions.
As per the new scheme, individuals with Indian Ids will be given lifetime visas.
Earlier, 15-years visas were given. As per the system, even if they stay beyond 180 days, there will be no need to inform the embassy or the police station.
The Ministry of Home Affairs is studying about the process of releasing special Indian ID cards and Indian Citizenship for the NRIs
Instructions have been issued to all embassies & consulates regarding the issue of 20-year visas for all American tourists except under certain special circumstances.
It is expected that this measure will strengthen the relationship between the 2 countries and it will be millstone in Indias development process.
