IRCTC Regional Director, Mr. Sriram, informed that ‘Food Plazas’ will soon be opened at the Chennai Central, Tambaram, and Thirunelveli Railway Stations.
Approval has been obtained to open food plazas at major railway stations under IRCTC.
Reputed hotels jointly run the food plazas at several locations in major cities. Similar food plazas will be opened shortly at Chennai Central, Tambaram,and Thirunelevli railway Stations.
‘On-line’ booking gets the first place on train reservations
On-line booking has got the first place among the train reservation booking faculties.
More than 50% use the on-line booking facility.
Earlier, the public booked 2000 tickets per minuted in the IRCTC internet website.
Subsequently, the internet booking system at IRCTC was upgraded with the latest software & server hardware at a cost of Rs. 150 Crores. The booking speed has now increased and presently, about 7000 persons book tickets per minute.
Around 1.20 lakh persons can book tickets all over India at the same time.
120 transactions are conducted every minute.
A maximum of 5.8 Lakh people booked train tickets on 19th March. After the upgradation of the server, 7.15 Lakh persons booked tickets on a single day on 27 August.
