Government employees, teachers and pensioners can now enjoy Dearness Allowance (DA) increased by 7% as per the Tamil Nadu Government’s recent announcement. This is expected to benefit about 18 lakh employees. It is said this new DA will be effective from July 1.
The DA currently being paid to employees is 100% and is set to climb to 107%. This is applicable to all employees working in local bodies, aided educational institutions, VAOs, noon meal workers, writers, panchayat officials, pensioners, family pensioners, etc, said the new Chief Minister O.Panneerselvam in his recent statement.
This will add on expenditure to the government by Rs 1,558.97 crore, he added. Mentioning the former Chief Minister’s name in his speech more often, Panneerselvam said this hike in DA is aimed to get Tamil Nadu on par with Central Government Employees to whom the DA was recently hiked.
