Southern Railway imposed ban on carrying fire crackers in trains as a precautionary measure to prevent fire accidents.
Railways will initiate stringent action against the passengers violating the rules and regulations. Carrying inflammable and dangerous goods like crackers in trains is punishable under Sections 67, 164 and 165 of the Railway Act, 1989 with a penalty of Rs 1,000 or three years of imprisonment or both.
Railways will screen passengers to prevent them from carrying crackers in view of ensuing Diwali season. The division will hold campaigns at its stations to create awareness among the passengers about fire hazards caused by carrying inflammable articles in trains and stations.
