TEACHERS HONOURED WITH ‘Dr. RADHAKRISHNAN AWARD

359 Teachers and Six Principals from schools all over Tamilnadu were selected for the prestigious ‘Dr. Radhakrishnan Award’ for the year 2009-2010. The selected teachers were honoured with the award in a function on Sunday in Chennai by Law Minister Durai Murugan 

The award carries silver medal, a citation and cash incentive of Rs.5, 000; were presented by Law Minister Dubai Murugan.The Chennai District Collector V. Shobana handed over a cheque for Rs.6 lakh to Mr. Durai Murugan towards National Foundation for Teachers` Welfare.

School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu said that during the current year, the allocation for schools development had been increased to over Rs.10, 147 crore, of which 80 per cent is earmarked for Teachers` welfare. .Appreciating the good work done by the School Education Department, Mr. Durai Murugan said that during the current year 8,903 vacant teachers post will be filled up.

The Minister Duraimurugan announced that Anna Centenary Library developed at a cost of Rs 180 Crores is set to be the Chief Minister on September 15. The Anna Library is built on the models of world class Alexandria library and Anna Library will be the biggest one in South East Asia.
