The central government is seriously considering making the Aadhar cards as compulsory proof for buying SIM cards.
The department of telecommunication has been consulting with various department officials on this issue.
Currently, persons buying SIM cards show their Voter Ids or driving licences as proofs. The telecom companies verify these and sell the activated SIM cards.
Now, the central government is exploring the possibility of making this checking process on-line.
In the proposed on-line checking process, the buyer of SIM card needs to show the Aadhar card. The number of the Aadhar card will simplify the procedure of checking.
However, several queries have been raised on this issue and the telecom department is discussing with all other related departments to sort out the queries.
