Neeraj Arora, business head of WhatsApp, the leading mobile messenger services declared in a statement recently that its Indian user base has increased to about 70 million active users and is more than 10th of the global users. He further added at 5th annual INK conference, that the company boasts of having 70 million active users, who tend to use the application almost once in a month. This organization had been purchased earlier this year by Facebook by a whopping $19 billion deal and added that the company presently has 600 million user base across the globe.
India currently is the biggest market for the organization having over 10th of its users. It connections people in billions in the markets like Brazil and India, which is an important objective of the organization. Arora is an alumnus from IIT-Delhi & ISB Hyderabad. He said that WhatsApp would continue holding distinctive identify even after being takeover by Facebook. It would not be merged with this social networking giant.
WhatsApp presently employs just 80 employees who are likely to be benefited from the learnings from Facebook. He first heard about WhatsApp, when he was business development executive at Google and then joined as business head here. It took him about two years for stitching the $19 billion deal that was announced this April. Arora interestingly said that over three years back, only a fraction of the payment would have been paid for purchasing WhatsApp. It could be somewhere around lower tens of millions dollars. He stressed on the fact that the organization has developed a lot from that period. He furthermore stated that its user base had doubled from 30 million to 600 million, from the time, he joined. The organization flourished due the focus being given on the product, instead of business side of things.
He stressed that the founders were interested to create a product that is cool enough to be utilized by millions, while not focusing on things such as valuations. He added that this does continue to the organization’s motto.
