Ingredients:
· Toor dal – 100 gm
· Drumstick leaves – a bunch
· Onion – 5 Nos
· Tomato – 3 Nos
· Garlic – 10 cloves
· Tamarind – as required
· Salt – as required
· Oil – 4 spoons
· Cumin seeds and mustard – ½ spoon each
· Turmeric powder – ½ spoon
· Sambar powder – 2 spoons
Method:
1. Soak toor dal in water for about half an hour and get it cooked in a cooker
2. Chop onion, tomato and garlic and keep it aside for cooking
3. Place a pan and heat oil. Add chopped garlic, onion and tomato one followed by the other. Sauté them altogether
4. Add water to it and add salt, turmeric powder, and sambar powder, and allow it to boil for two minutes
5. This is the right point to add the cooked toor dal. Add the cooked dal and after two minutes of adding it, add the drumstick leaves you have
6. Once the mixture boils, add tamarind water as required
7. On adding tamarind water, allow the mixture to get boiled only for about 2 minutes. Excessive boiling may induce a bitter taste to the sambar
8. Take a seasoning pan and heat oil. Add mustard and cumin seeds to the oil and add the seasoning to the boiling sambar. This process can also be done with Vadagam.
