Facebook content restriction: India tops the list

Around 5,000 information pieces on the site has been restricted access by Facebook, in India during this year’s first half, which according to the officials are the highest. This is due to the requests made by agencies and government to curb unwanted contents. Outside the US, it is India that has a huge user base with more than 100 million users. Turkey and Pakistan had taken similar steps during this period.

When access to accounts are concerned, India just ranks second, with the first being the US. Contents were basically restricted access that were requested to be done so by the law enforcement officials of the country. The company officials also confirmed that requests numbering 4,559 had poured in to avail information on about 5,958 accounts. Moreover, data were seen to be produced on 50.87% of the requested users account. The request numbers had increased around 26% from the last year’s half period.

A senior official also stated that there had been an increased of government requests on content restriction and data and around 34,946 requests had been made for data, which is a 24% increase from the last year’s half. He also added that all requests are properly scrutinized and if deficiencies are found, the requests are pushed back.
