Coming on to the number of pre-teens using Social Media during school hours, Hyderabad has overtaken Chennai.
In an annual survey by McAfee, Tweens, Teens and Technology 2014, the online behavior and social networking habits of Indian tweens (aging between eight and twelve), and teens were analyzed. The survey reports say 55 per cent of the city’s tweens are engaged in social media activities during their school hours.
Out of all social media sites, Facebook stands first with 93 per cent visitors. This is followed by YouTube and Whatapp with 87 and 79 per cent respectively. Alarming information about usage of social media is that despite setting the minimum age to register in social media as 13 years, it is 10 to 12 year children who use social media accounts more than teenagers do. Social media accounts like Snapchat, Pinterest, Tinder, Tumblr, Vine, etc are used more by students of the age 10 to 12.
Over 52 per cent of Indian youths are found to access their social media pages during their schools hours. Out of this, 57 per cent are tweens and 47 per cent are teens. Nearly 60 per cent of youngsters use their social media pages with fake profile.
