The grandest Tamil festival, Pongal, falls on Thursday, 15th January, 2015. The public is ready to make advance reservations for travelling to their native places on this festive occasion.
Actually, there is a provision for advance reservation only for up to 60 days ahead.
However, as Pongal falls on Thursday in the coming year, there will be successive holidays on Friday, 16th January (Mattu Pongal), and Saturday, 17th January (Uzhavar Thirunal) with 18th January being a Sunday. This provides for a succession of 4 holidays.
As the festival of Bhogi will be celebrated on Wednesday, 14th January, the public will pan their travel ahead of 14th.
It is most likely that the travel plans will start on Sunday, 11th January. Advance reservations for booking on trains on 11th January will start tomorrow, Wednesday, 12th November.
The Tamil Festival of Pongal is celebrated even more grandly in rural areas. Hence, the people living in urban areas plan to visit their native places to participate in the grand celebrations.
The advance reservation for travel starts tomorrow, Wednesday, 12th November, and will continue till 17th November.
