A trough of low pressure, which has turned into a well-marked low pressure area over the south Andaman sea, may concentrate into a depression depending upon its movement during the next 24 hours. Under its influence, heavy rain will occur at many places over south Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 24 hours.
The low pressure is expected to move towards Tamil Nadu in the next 48 hours.This is the fourth depression heading towards the state since the onset of the north-east monsoon which is active over Tamil Nadu during the last three weeks.
Fishermen were warned not to venture into the sea as strong offshore winds from the north-westerly direction with speed occasionally reaching 45-55 kmph were likely along the south Tamil Nadu coast.
Heavy to very heavy rain would occur over southern Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Isolated heavy rain would occur over the remaining parts of the state.
