The public have been greatly disappointed over the continuing power cuts even during the severe cold season.
Hence, EB (TANGEDCO) officials have decided to write a letter to the central government about the gravity of the situation.
With the onset of the North-eat monsoon, severe cold conditions have been prevailing, the demand for power has reduced from 13500 MW to 10 to 11000 MW.
However, the current generation is not able to meet even this reduced demand.
The shortage was 300 MW on 7th November, 610 MW on 8th November, 520 MW on 10th November, and 920 MW on 11th November, showing an increasing trend.
Because of these shortfalls, unannounced power-cuts are imposed for 2-3 hours daily in all areas other than Chennai city.
This has caused great hardship to the public.
An Energy Department official informed:
There are plans for Tuticorin TPS (Thermal Power Station), and NLC (Neyveli Lignite Corporation) jointly to generate 500 MW (through 2 Units), Thiruvallur Vallur TPS & NTPC jointly to generate 500 MW (though 3 Units). 2 Units were expected to function, one each in Tuticorin & Vallut but his has not materialised. This has created a shortfall of 650 MW.
Only less power is obtained from NLC & Simhadri Central government units.
To attend to these problems, TANGEDCO officials have decided to write to the central government.
