Posted on: 22/Nov/2014 5:51:50 PM
The central government has been implementing the subsidy of payment for cooking gas in different stages.

The new system will be effective from 1st January in Tamil Nadu.

Individuals with cooking gas connections will have the subsidy amount deposited in their savings accounts.

However, they will buy the gas from the agency by paying the full amount.

Oil Corporations will directly deposit the subsidy amount in the bank savings account.

The central government expects that this method will reduce the hoarding of cylinders or sealing at higher prices  and other misdeeds.

A customer can buy up to 12 cylinders per year. Anything in excess will not be eligible for subsidy.

People with gas connections will have to open their Bank Accounts between January & March. Then, they can approach the agents for further details.

Presently, Aadhar card is not required for this.

The procedure:

The customer will have to pay the full amount of Rs. 950/- while buying the cylinder from the gas agency. Then, central government will deposit the subsidy in the savings account within 3 days of purchase.

Application forms (2 per individual) are available with the gas agencies to be given on furnishing bank account details with passbook & Aadhar card. One has to be filled up & submitted. The other has to be filled up & submitted to the bank.

Gas Agencies will help the public to complete the procedure..

Savings Account should be opened only in nationalised banks.

There are over 1.62 Crore gas connections in Tamil Nadu.

SMS facility will be available to keep the customer informed about the subsidy payment.
