Chennai Corporation has decided to produce 60 MW power through solar energy for the corporation buildings. This measure is expected to reduce the trouble of power shortage, especially during the working hours.

The corporation also decided to extend this project to street lights which requires about 200 Mega Watts power every year for which about Rs.5 crore is paid towards electricity bill to the Electricity Board. To handle this situation and avoid huge amounts of current bills and shortage of power, Chennai Corporation has decided to install solar energy system in about 800 buildings.  To implement this in the nearing future, all essential steps are being taken and happening at a fast pace.

This will be a welcoming project, which also encourages other private companies and large organizations to incorporate in their buildings as well. Moreover, with this new method, individual residents would also start having their own solar energy system installed at their home to use natural source and can avoid hiking electricity bills.
