Supreme Court has endorsed the Central Government order that Kendriya Vidyalaya students studying in 6 to 8 classes need not write Sanskrit Exams for this academic year and they can very well continue learning German Language as one of their electives.
During a meeting held on August 27, Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Mrs. Smriti Irani declared their decision of introducing Sanskrit in place of German Language immediately in all Central Government funded Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools.
Due to this decision, more than 70,000 students studying all over India in 500 Kendriya Vidyalayas Schools are likely to be affected. Parents and other political leaders immediately raised opposition. Some parents filed case in Supreme Court to cancel the order. Enquiry for this case was held yesterday. After heavy discussions, Supreme Court Judges passed on the order that students need not skip their German Language exams this academic year, and from the next academic year (2015-16), students of Kendriya Vidyalaya are free to take Sanskrit or any other Indian language as their third language.
