Posted on: 17/Dec/2014 2:20:00 PM
TN Open University is facing heavy controversy in recruiting teaching faculty. It is reported that TN Open University is violating the UGC and University guidelines in faculty recruitment. The University Syndicate has not approved the selection panel and the selection of the teachers. In addition, the University Syndicate has not convened a syndicate meeting for more than five months. The last meeting took place in June 2014.

Without proper acceptance and consultation of syndicate members, the selection panel was formed and the recruitment drive has started to fill up 25 faculty posts. From December 4, the first recruitment phase went on for a week and the second phase is expected to begin from December 20.

The University is currently making recruitment for the subjects including archeology, biology, botany, zoology, physics and chemistry that are not offered by them. Vice Chancellor Chandrakantha Jeyabalan of TN Open University refused to comment on the allegation. It was stated that these recruitment drives are to become eligible for UGC 12B status.
