Ingredients:
For Dough Preparation:
  • Maida Flour – 250 grams
  • Turmeric Powder – ¼ spoon
  • Salt – To taste
  • Oil – 50 ml
  • Water – As needed
For Stuffing Preparation:
  • Channa dhal – 200 grams
  • Jaggery(Vellam) – 250 grams
  • Grated Coconut - 2 table spoon
  • Cardamom powder – ½ spoon
Method:

Preparation of Dough and Filling Stuff:
  1. Mix the Maida with oil and turmeric and add little water. The dough should be like chapatti dough (dough should be soft and not so tight). Keep it aside for a minimum of 1 hour.

  2. Soak the Channa dhal in water for half an hour and cook the Channa dhal in pressure cooker till it is soft for 3 whistles.
  3. Drain it out and grind the Channa dhal along with grated coconut and cardamom without adding water to fine paste.
  4. Then add the jaggery to the mixer and give a pulse and mix it with the ground dal paste. Now the filling is ready for the dish.

Preparation of the Poli:
  1. Make small balls from the dough.
  2. Spread each ball like poori using hand either on a plastic sheet or banana leaf greased with the oil.

  3. Now, keep the filling stuff in the middle of the rolled poori.

  4. Close the puri with stuffed filling and remove the excess dough.

  5. Again using hand dipped in oil, spread the stuffed Poli dough in such a way that the filling is spread evenly.

  6. Then heat a pan and add the rolled Poli in the pan and add little ghee or oil and cook one side.
  7. Turn other side and add some ghee and cook it. Remove the cooked Poli from pan. Repeat the same for the remaining Poli dough.
  8. The delicious Parupu Poli is ready to serve hot!

Note:
  • The taste will be too good, if the ratio of the filling should be slightly bigger than the Maida balls.
  • While adding the jaggery with the Channa dal paste, sometimes it may become watery. Don’t worry. Just heat the pan, add 2 spoons of oil to it and add the grinded paste. Stir well continuously until it becomes dry and allow it to cool. Then it will be good to make it as a small balls.
  • This is a traditional sweet dish and enjoy it yummy taste!
