Tamil Nadu School Education Department has decided to set up an encylopaedia on the web for the school students. This is the first such attempt in India.
Information required by students from 1st Standard to 12th Standard will be compiled.
There has been an increasing trend among the school & college-going students to use internet for furthering their knowledge.
However, these data are not readily available presently in Tamil. Also, they do not cater to the syllabus prescribed for the students.
Based on this observation, the department of education has started setting up the web encyclopaedia for school & college students.
For an example, if the student desires to know information on force of gravity, he/she can type the same letters to get the details in form of articles, videos, photographs, and audio recordings related to the subject.
This will pave the way for the students to acquire complete knowledge on the topic in a simple manner.
The central government has already made a web site on this front:
www.nroer.gov.in.
However, this is the first ever time when a state government has undertaken the effort to set a web encyclopaedia for students. Continuous ‘up-dating’ will be carried out on the web site, including the various science conferences, new developments, etc by way of adding new lessons.
Any student with access to internet can avail this.
