SRIKKANTH HONOURED ALONGWITH N RAM, BALDEV RAJ IN THE FIRST CONVOCATION CEREMONY OF VELS UNIVERSITY BY M K STALIN

K Srikkanth , chairman, BCCI selection committee was honored with Honoris Causa degree on the first convocation of Vels University. Srikkanth received the degree from Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin at Vels University in Chennai on Monday in the presence of Baldev Raj, IGCAR Director, and a recipient of the honorary degree, Vice-Chancellor S. Ramachandran and founder-president Ishari K. Ganesh of Vels University

M K Stalin the Deputy Chief Minister in his speech said that Technical education and engineering syllabi should be reworked to equip students with skill sets that match expectations of industry and that the students pass out were better employable.
He further said about gross enrolment ratio as that of India was much below the global ratio in the developed countries of 60-70 per cent in at y 12.5 per cent in India. Tamil Nadu fared marginally better with a ratio of 17 per cent. Tamilnadu was making efforts to increase the GER, he added.

The Deputy Chief Minister also presented the Honoris Causa degrees awarded by the Vels University to Baldev Raj, Director, and Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam, The D.Sc. for recognition of his “outstanding research achievements” and “continuous efforts and intuitive knowledge in sustaining the lead of this Nation in the field of nuclear energy. Ram, Editor-in-Chief of the Hindu, the D. Litt. for his “courageous convictions and commitments in the field of journalism” and “creative contributions and service to the political and cultural life of the nation”  K. Srikkanth, former cricketer and chairman, BCCI selection committee, the D. Litt. for Mr. Srikkanth for his “achievements and contributions to the game of cricket in the country” and “inspirational vision and selfless determination in improving the quality of sports.”
