The central government extended the concession on Kalal Tax till December. The Kalal tax on household consumer goods was also reduced from 12% to 10% till December 2014.

However, the central government has now declared that this concession will not be extended further.

The automobile car manufacturing companies have raised the prices.

Since the Kalal tax concession has not been extended, the battery manufacturing company, Eveready, has announced rise in prices.

Other battery manufacturers are expected to follow suit.

So, the prices of batteries and rechargeable lights are expected to go up.
