Railway passengers in Tamil Nadu can now feel safer with a new helpline number that is set to be available from next week. The number is 1512. Complying with the directive of Ministry of communications and information technology, the Government Railway Police (GRP) has made this 24 hours emergency call facility available for the public.

As a note of pride to all Chennaites, this call centre facility is pioneered in Chennai by GRP. This can be used by anyone travelling within the state. Similar services are being set up in other states as well. According to Seema Agarwal, inspector general of police, the call centre will be set up within a maximum time of one week.

Speaking about this call centre service, a GRP officer said passengers can make calls during their travel in trains and they can be responded from the control room.
