With the current Metro Rail Project nearing completion, The CMRL has now invited tenders for preparing draft plans for 3 new metro train routes.
The current project has 2 sections – Washermanpet to Airport and Central to St Thomas Mount covering 45 km on double track. The project commenced in 2009 and 76% work is completed. It is likely to be 100% complete by 2016. Koyambedu-Alandur section of 10 km will start public operation shortly.
With the pending activities nearing completion in the 1st phase of Chennai Metro Rail Project, 3 new metro routes are planned in the 2nd phase.
The 1st track will cover 17 km from Madhavaram, Perambur, Ayanavaram, Puarasawalkam, Nungambakkam High Road, Gemini, Radhakrishnan Road, Luz, and Light House.
The 2nd track will cover 27 km from Koyambedu, Shaligramam, Vadapalani, Kodambakkam, Panagal Park, Nandhanam, Luz, Mandavelli, Adyar, Besant Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, Kottivakkam, and Injambakkam.
The 3rd track will cover 32 km from Madhavaram, Kolathur, Villivakkam, Anna Nagar West, Mogappair, Maduravoyal, Valasaravakkam, Trade Centre, OTA, Aadambakkam, Madippakkam, Kilkattalai, Medavakkam, and Perumbakkam.
For this 2nd Phase, Chennai Metro Corporation has invited tenders for detailed drafting the plan to be submitted before 3.00 PM on 4th March.
The details of the route, the locations of the stations, required acquisition of lands, the buildings needing to be destroyed and the compensation for the same, the details of government-owned & private-owned lands, traffic changes required, the number of stations underground, total number of trains, and the frequency of operation will all be explained in the draft tender.
