108 ambulance services will be launched at Marina Beach from today. The Tamil Nadu Government exclusively manufactured 78 ambulances to be used in hilly regions. Initially 30 ambulances were pressed into services. Now it has been decided to operate 48 ambulances in the hilly terrain and coastal villages.
The all-terrain vehicle can move on the sand and provide first-aid to people being rescued from the water and move them quickly to a hospital. Every week more than four people drown off the city beaches, but the government hasn`t found it necessary to post life guards. When authorities argue that guards cannot be posted as swimming here is per se illegal, the four-wheel drive ambulance on the beach is an improvement to the grave situation.
