The power generation authorities informed that the North Chennai Power station unit, which was shut down to fire accident, will start generating power again from 28th February.
The first unit of the stage-2 of North Chennai Thermal power station was shut down due to fire accident caused by oil leakage in the turbine section on 7th November. .There were damages to the turbine, rotors and cables.
BHEL, the supplier of the original equipment has replaced the damaged parts. Work is in progress.
Due to this fire accident, power generation has been affected for more than 100 days. This unit of 600 MW capacity can produce 14 million units of electric energy.
EB officials expressed hopes that the restarting of power generation will meet the demand during the coming summer season.
