Tamil Nadu state government has implemented a new system of ‘on-line’ monitoring of the Social Pension Scheme which benefits around 32 lakh pensioners.

The data of the pensioners’ Aadhar card numbers and cell phone numbers are being gathered and entered in computers.

Tamil Nadu Social Welfare department has implemented 8 different schemes for 32 Lakh individuals including old age pension scheme, differently-abled persons’ pension scheme, National widows’ scheme, etc.

As the data collecting, implementing and analytical work has not progressed systematically, large number of fake claimants has entered these pension schemes.

While taking strong corrective actions, it was found that there were 2 lakh fake users and they were removed from the scheme.

The complete data of all beneficiaries of pension scheme is being prepared and has been completed. After this, the details of Aadhar card numbers and cell phone numbers are being added to this data of pension beneficiaries.

This step will enable to find if a single person is benefiting from 2 different sources. So far, Aadhar card numbers of 5 lakh pensioners have been registered.

A maximum of 50000 Aadhar cards details has been gathered at Kanyakumari district. This work is progressing rather slowly in Chennai and yet to be completed. Details of only 4000 Aadhar cards have been registered in Chennai.

However, there are no issues of releasing pensions for individuals without Aadhar cards.

Arrangements have been made to enable applicants to apply on-line both from their places and internet service centres in case they do not have that facility.

Service personnel are being trained in this regard. A new facility of sending SMS regarding the pension amount/payment to the pensioners has been introduced.

The pensioners have to visit the Taluk office and register their cell phone particulars to receive this SMS service.
