Central Government Order to banks: Dont insist on old-aged pensioners!

Pensioners have to submit proof every year that they are alive in order to continue receiving pension.

The pensioners who find it difficult to come physically with PPO (Pension Payment Order) or the Pension Order Passbook can get the attestation of government notary public and send it by post as proof that they are alive.

However, these pensioners can send their proof of life by post only for a maximum of 3 running years. They have to physically present themselves on the 4th year as a proof that they are alive.

Complaints were received that some banks insist that the pensioners should come in person with PPO and also causing them some unnecessary hardships. There was an appeal from the pensioners’ association to the central government to look into this problem and find a solution.

A senior cabinet ministry official informed that the banks should strictly follow the existing rules for pension schemes. However, when a proof with bank officer’s attestation and Aadhar based proof for being alive is submitted, the banks should not insist on the pensioner’s personal appearance.

The banks should bear in mind that the digital file certificate is in vogue. A detailed circular regarding this will be sent to all the banks.
