The central Minister for Railways, Mr. Suresh Prabhu, presented the Railway Budget in the parliament today (Thursday, 26th February).
The highlights:
Under the Coordinated transport system arrangement, a new system for issuing a single ticket for travel in both and train in metro cities like Chennai is being introduced.
Backward & distant remote places will be provided with a train link.
A new plan for revamping and strengthening the existing Railway security system will be presented before June. 970 new bridges at both ground level & elevated level will be constructed.
- Arrangement for transport will be made to bring the passengers to the railway stations and then take the passengers from the station to their residential localities.
- The budget has exceeded Rs. 1 Lakh Crore.
- Railway properties will be protected.
- The expenditure level has been increased to Rs. 1.1 Lakh Crore.
- The railway stations will be suitably modified to reflect the local cultural highlights.
- Railway research centers will be set up in 4 universities.
- Exploration will be done for providing Metro Rail systems in all states.
