Letter to Commissioner of Chennai Metro Rail Project: Koyambedu-Alandur section ready for operation!

A letter has been sent to the Commissioner of the Chennai Metro Rail Project Administration that the section between Koyambedu & Alandur is ready for public service.

Test-runs are being scheduled in March.

Chennai Metro Rail has 2 corridors covering 45 km – the first between Washermanpet & Chennai Airport and the second between Chennai Central & St. Thomas Mount. The project has been in progress since last 5 years. It was planned that the 2-way track for both corridors would be completed by 2016.

In the 1st stage, the work between Koyambedu & Alandur via Vadapalani was taken up for a distance of 10 km. The construction of stations between the section Koyambedu & Alandur, CMBT, Arumbakkam, Vadapalani, Ashoknagar, and SIDCO are nearing completion.

Test-runs have been conducted in this section over the last 4 months.The construction of the station as well as laying tracks is completed. The Metro Rail administration is ready to operate public service in this section.

Now, a letter has been written to the Commissioner of Railway Security in Bangalore to conduct test-runs and give the certificate for operating public services.

The metro officials informed that the construction work in the section is complete. Train drivers have also completed their training in Delhi. So, it is expected that test-runs will be conducted during March and then certificate will be given. Tamil Nadu government will be informed. The trains will start public service as per the dates given by the state government.
