Kalas Mahal which was once a part of Chepauk Palace is likely to turn to be a place to solve disputes as the state government is planning to allot space for National Green Tribunal (NGT) in this structure which is currently under restoration.
NGT is currently functioning in Arumbakkam. And this will soon get shifted to the 247 year old building structure. It may take time till end of 2015 for the entire structure to get shifted completely. Proposal for the same is already submitted and the process is under scrutiny of the government.
As of now, over 950 pending cases are with the tribunal which includes disputes in environmental issues in states including Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Lakswadeep, and Kerala. The new premises will comprise of two premises the second of which will soon be started in the existing building which is currently in use.
