Shivaji Ganesan’s theatre Shanthi in Chennai is to be demolished and a commercial complex will be built in that place. The complex, constructed by G Umapathy in 1956-57 and later bought over by Sivaji Ganesan`s family, will be replaced by a three-screen multiplex that would double up as a virtual gaming centre and retail hub. G Prabhu, said the actor-family has entered into the joint venture as Akshaya has the expertise in real estate development. But the family’s business is closely knit with the entertainment industry and the new project will be an ‘entertainment centre’.
