The festival of Holi celebrated recently stands as an indication for the onset of Spring. Chennaites as always began experiencing sweating humidity and heat on Saturday which literally was indicative of hotter, and hottest days that fall in the coming days.
Travelling on roads without much trees or shades covering by side was too hot and the scorching heat was unbearable for motorists. According to observations made, the maximum temperature recorded was 33.1 degree Celsius in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam. This is too close to the average temperature of March month.
Commuters and motorists say they rely on shade under bus shelters to get refreshed as the recent days are too hot. While the day time is obviously hot, the night times are turning worse with high levels of warmness with the minimum temperature being 26 degree Celsius which is 2 degrees above the usual night temperature. Though there are rainfalls in some parts of the state due to cyclonic circulation over Lakshadweep-Maldives, Chennai stands pity without even a single drop of shower! According to measurements made last year, the maximum temperature recorded was 36.6 degrees Celsius on 31st March. It is guessed that the maximum temperature this year would be 33 degree Celsius and minimum, 25.
