Malpractices in trade are on the rise in Tamil Nadu. Marking an end to this, the Tamil Nadu metrology department has devised plans to launch a mobile app using which users will be able to file complaints of overcharging or short-charging at petrol bunks and in other place of sales.
As of now, no mode of complaining is available, neither a toll-free number nor a website. The official of labor department has under it the legal metrology department. The department says a proposal is sent to the government for sanctioning funds for the app, and a website and a toll-free number too. One of the officials said the works will be started once the government approves the proposal. He also stated that funds are needed to provide smartphones to the field officers.
When the app is made available, users will be able to file complaint with the legal metrology department. Their complaint can contain relevant photos or videos as well. This will then be acknowledged with a complaint ID for keeping track of the action taken on the complaint. Complaints can be of any kind – fleecing by a shopkeeper can be complained along with the shopkeeper’s image, or video of the fleecing act.
