Another desalination plant at Nemmeli

There is some cheerful news for Chennaites. The city is now staggering for water because there is no inflow of water in the reservoirs. At this juncture, Tamil Nadu State Government has cleared yet another desalination plant at Nemmeli on East Coast Road. The plant, with a capacity of 150 MLD, is estimated to cost Rs 1,372 crore.
The new plant was proposed more than three years ago, but the water supply department issued an order giving clearance to the project only a week ago. The plant will come up on the available vacant land next to the existing 100 MLD desalination plant at Nemmeli. The city has yet another 100MLD capacity plant at Minjur.
