There has been a reduction in the quantity of vegetable arriving at Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market. Hence, vegetable traders expect that there are prospects for increase in vegetables prices next month.
Hundreds of trucks deliver vegetables daily at the Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market. Both the public and the suburban retail vendors come here and buy the vegetables.
With good increase in the quantity of vegetables arriving at Koyambedu, the prices of vegetables were lower during the last few weeks. With the onset of summer, this quantity has reduced. Hence, traders expect a price increase for vegetables.
For instance, the arrival of flat beans (avaraikkai in Tamil) has reduced in quantity and its price has already increased. Last week, beans & flat beans arrived on 20 trucks daily. Beans was sold at Rs. 20/- per kg & flat beans at Rs. 25/- per kg. However, the current price of beans is Rs. 35/- p-er kg and flat beans is Rs. 30/-.
During the summer season, the quantity of vegetables reaching Koyambedu is expected to reduce further leading to further increase in vegetable prices.
