Insomnia was earlier a term only with adults, but now it’s the case with children too. While the reason for insomnia may vary from one child to the other, the suffering and final result are always the same. In adults, sleeping disorder may be due to stress, obesity, alcoholism, etc.

According to city doctors, they see children of the age 3 to 12 suffering out of sleep troubles that in turn lead to poor concentration, and drowsy throughout the day. According to one of the doctors, Dr. N.Ramakrishnan, the director of Nithra Institute of Sleep Sciences, he says two out of every 10 patients are children. He says the reason for most cases of insomnia are external factors. In one of the cases of a patient who is a 12-year old boy, his restlessness was because he was unfriended by his friend on Facebook. This has left him anxious and sleep deprived.

Gadgets – though it is a well known villain, this has turned indispensable. This hugely disrupts the sleep in children. Since it acts also as an alarm, children tend to wake up for it. And as they wake up, they immediately start surfing through web pages.
