Since there is heavy demand for electricity power in Chennai, it is estimated that the power requirement will cross 3000 megawatt.
For the last two weeks, there is heavy impact of sun in the whole of Tamil Nadu. Because of this the power demand crossed 13,000MW, equivalent to what the demand was in June last year when the temperature soared to 40 degrees centigrade.
Power managers say that while comparing to last year, 200 megawatt has been increased this year.
The demand in Chennai on 9th April 2014 was 2,577 megawatt. On April 9th 2015 the demand was 2,769 megawatt. On 24th June 2014, the maximum power required was 2,921 megawatts. This year even before the summer touched its peak, the power requirement has been increased by 2,769 megawatts. Hence it is expected that between May and June the demand for power will cross 3000 megawatts.
Compared to last year, there are no power cuts this year.
