Gold markets are preparing for the festival of Akshaya Tritiya. This year target for Akshaya Tritiya is 2000 kilo gold in Chennai. Now advance booking has began in some of the jewellery shops. The word "Akshaya" meaning the never diminishing in Sanskrit is believed to bring good luck, prosperity and success and considered auspicious for starting new ventures. This year Akshaya Tritiya falls on 21st April. As expected, many top jewelers have come out with attractive offers.
"Silver equivalent to the weight of gold (bought at GRT) will be given as gift," says a popular jeweller.
Other offers are also in store as 25 gram silver will be offered free for a carat of diamond.
Every year the purchase of gold is increasing on Akshaya Tritiya day. In the year 2011, 700 kilos of gold were sold. In 2012, 720 kilos of gold were sold. In 2013, 1100 kilos of gold were sold. Last year 1500 kilos of gold were sold. Now the gold is sold for Rs 20, 240 per sovereign. When compared to previous year, the rate of gold this year is less. Hence there are chances of more sales this year. Efforts are being made to open the jewellery shops in the early morning itself on Akshaya Tritiya day. Additional staff will be deployed.
On an average, 1000 kilos gold are being sold every day in Tamil Nadu.
