Department of Railways is devising plans to make available 12 metro rails between Koyambedu and Alandur, as a heavy population of commuters is expected in this route. In the first phase of the service, metro train service will be provided between Koyambedu and Alandur along a stretch of 10 km. Works including construction of railway tracks, power cables, signals, railway stations, etc are completed.
S.K.Mital, the Railway safety minister flew all the way from Bangalore to Chennai and ensured proper functioning of metro rail between Koyambedu and Alandur. Speaking about the inspection he carried out, officials say the commissioner pointed the flaws with safety measures and railway tracks, and that necessary measures are being taken to rectify them. Following this, the commissioner will yet again visit Chennai to inspect the safety measures as the second phase of inspection. During this inspection, a keen focus will be given for the essential basic features incorporated in the stations and train.
On completion of the inspection, by the end of May, the central ministry of railways will provide NOC for making the metro rail service available for the public, say officials. Metro rail between Koyambedu and Alandur with a running time of 15 to 30 minutes will be made available in the first phase.
