Rain is expected in most places in south Tamil Nadu

The depression in the Bay of Bengal has weakened after becoming a well-marked low pressure area. The Chennai Meteorological office have mentioned that there will be isolated rainfall on Monday in few places of Tamil Nadu.
 
At a time when the summer has commenced in Tamil Nadu, there were rains in few places of Tamil Nadu because of upper circulation and depression in Bay.
 
Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, S.R. Ramanan said, " Due to upper air circulation over Comorin area, rain is expected in most places in south Tamil Nadu and a few locations in northern parts of the state over the next 24 hours."
 
According to IMD, Mahabalipuram (Kanchipuram) and Vallam (Thanjavur) recorded 10 cm rain each while Kattumannal Koil (Cuddalore) and, Needamangalam (Tiruvarur) nine cm in the past 24 hours.
 
Tindivanam (Villupuram), Udumalpet (Tiruppur), Mannargudi (Tiruvarur) and Papanasam (Thanjavur) received eight cm each while Kodavasal (Tiruvarur), Kallakurichi (Villupuram), Valangaiman (Tiruvarur Dist), Tindivanam (Villupuram), Kumbakonam (Thanjavur), recorded seven cm rain each.
 
Similarly, rainfall of lesser quantum was recorded in several other districts including Chennai, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruvallur, and Salem besides neighbouring Puducherry.
On the rains in the past 24 hours in several places in Tamil Nadu including Chennai, he said it was due to convection which normally follows a phase of high temperature.
