Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, the chief planning agency has begun the recruitment drive in a big way to have vacant posts filled up.
It is the planning section, where there is a major demand for new faces, which can help to take care of the pending work and to work more efficiently. The agency had put up applications to fill up 176 posts, with 60 of them belonging to planning section.
Post Mugalivakkam’s 11-storey building collapse that witnessed the death of 61 people last June, CMDA has been inspecting multi-storey buildings and high rises, under construction. But acute staff shortage has made the task of building inspection to be a long procedure.
The planning agency sources also stated that all types of experiments had been carried out like hiring experts and recruiting temporary professionals for expediting inspections, but all in vain. The precise vacancy number present in the planning wing is not confirmed by the officials.
According to rough estimates, the basic requirement is expected to be around 50 in this section.
According to the M.D. of a well known real estate agency, this move is to have been carried out a long time back and is definitely welcome. CMDA has been facing staff shortage and with center discussing on smart cities, this city is to be in the race. All related tasks and planning section such as inspections are to be carried out quickly, while excuses like delays being because of staff shortage should be done away with.
