In order to curb the price rise of dhal and pulses, the Central Government has decided to import pulses and dhal.
In India, every year an average of 1.8 Crore tonnes of dhal and pulses are harvested. Apart from this 30-40 lakhs tonnes are imported depending on the necessity. For the last two years, the dhal and pulses have not been imported.
At this juncture, there is news that the production of pulses and dhals will come down in Australia and Canada. Because of this the rates of Dhal and pulses have been increasing in the open market.
In Delhi, Toor Dal which was selling for Rs 83 per kilo is now being sold for Rs 108. Channa Dal which was sold for Rs 54 is now being sold for Rs 68.
Central Government has stated, “There will be lesser rains this year. The production of pulses and dhal will come down in countries like Australia and Canada. In view of this the prices of pulses and dhal will splurge ahead in the open market and hence it has been decided to import these items before hand through MMTC.”
