When compared to last week, the prices of vegetables have gone high due to impact of sun in Chennai.
Every day truck loads of vegetables are brought from Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Karnataka to Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market. During the first week of April vegetables like tomatoes, onions and drumsticks which are widely used by people were sold for Rs.20 per kilo. Due to the impact of sun, the prices of vegetables started rising gradually.
At this juncture on Wednesday, majority of vegetables including broad beans, drumsticks and tomatoes were increased between Rs.5 and Rs.15 per kilo when compared to last week.
Usually 4500 tons of vegetables will be brought for sales. The vegetables will be brought in 350 Lorries. Because of the scorching heat, the production has come down and supply to Koyambedu market has become less. That is the reason for price rise.
