Prices of fruits & vegetables steeply up!

Vegetables are brought in large quantities to Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market from Krishnagiri, Oddanchathiram, Periyapalayam, Thiruvannamalai, and Hosur.
However, due to shortage of growth, the quantity of vegetable reaching Chennai has reduced considerably.

Hence, more quantity of vegetables are being brought from other states like Andhra, Karnataka, and Maharashtra resulting in higher prices for vegetables.

Retail prices of various vegetables in Chennai in Rupees per kg:

2 months ago, price per kg of most vegetables was under Rs. 30/- per kg. However, it has currently shot up.

Prices of fruits have also gone up by a high level.

Apples are sold at Rs. 200/- to Rs. 250/- per kg. Orange is sold at Rs. 80/- per kg. Sweet lime is sold at Rs. 40/- per kg.

Red plantain (banana) fruits are sold at Rs. 10/- to Rs. 15/- per piece.

Guava is sold at Rs. 20/- per kg.

Traders informed that higher prices are due to the erratic rainfall and its shortage.
