As per a new global report given out by Ericsson on Thursday, it is claimed that smartphone users spend just 30 per cent of the time on communication apps. They can make use of their smartphone for wide range of applications including entertainment, games, photography, communication, and so on. Out of these, communication is told to take high priority and remain dominant. They either spend time through text messaging, internet protocols like Skype, mails, social network or voice calling facilities.

Senior advisor at Ericsson Consumer lab, Swetleena Swain states nearly 40 to 50 of the internet data are spent on communication apps and the corresponding data consumption on videos is only 20 per cent. Further, the research also states that language and culture certainly has its influence on the communication pattern and adoption of apps used for communication.

While people in Britain and US use more of voice calling apps, those in Japan and South Korea choose text messages for which they use locally developed communication apps. Moreover, most of the US mobile apps are exclusively designed for English speaking audience and there is no surprise that these apps are used more in English speaking countries, Swain points.
