CM J.Jayalalitha proves as Amma with her new scheme for lactating mothers

Here is a new announcement by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J. Jayalalitha that will really be of great help for breastfeeding mothers. All bus terminals run by the state transport corporation and municipalities will be set up with separate rooms where mothers can breastfeed their infants. In her statement, Jayalalitha said this initiative will be kick-started during the Breastfeeding Week that starts from 1st of August.
 
Lactating mothers need to wait at the bus terminals when they are on-duty or while travelling. Such mothers will be facilitated with separate rooms at bus terminals for breastfeeding their infants without any hassle.
 
World Breastfeeding Week:
 
Breastfeeding for infants during their first six months is recommended by experts. Since the year 1990, World Breastfeeding Week is observed in order to support and protect breastfeeding. ‘Breastfeeding and Work – let’s make it work’ – this is the theme of World Breastfeeding Week 2015. This theme is set up in order to motivate and encourage working women to breastfeed their infant and give priority to it.
 
Jayalalitha did point that the state government has made an all new move which is the launch of milk bank at the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children in Chennai in 2014. The milk bank is intended to ensure that all infants get nutrition rich breast milk as donated by mothers.
 
Jayalalitha added that she intends providing all possible facilities to lactating mothers considering all its importance. She did point about other important schemes she has introduced to support women. Schemes introduced include:
 
·         Marriage assistance scheme

·         Sanitary complexes

·         Distribution of free sanitary napkins

·         Cradle baby scheme

·         24-hour emergency obstetric care

·         Women literacy programs, and so on
